CHERAS: Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat’s popular mobile clinic will spread its wings far north as the Pandan MP will drive the popular “clinic-on-wheels” right up to Kedah, Perlis and Penang.
The project, a joint effort between Ong’s Pandan service centre, Yayasan Bakti Nusa and several welfare non-governmental organisations (NGOs), will kick-off in the later half of next month.
“I’m delighted with the response in Pandan,” he said, when met at his latest ‘pit stop’ yesterday at the Pandan Perdana 700 low-cost flats.
“I think the time is right to ‘go beyond’ with this programme. In September, after Hari Raya, my service centre, together with Yayasan Bakti Nusa and several NGOs, will launch the programme in the northern states.
“We have been running this service in Pandan without fail every weekend after its launch in February. It also gives me the opportunity to engage the community, listen to their grouses and see their problems.”
The former Transport Minister said more medical services would be introduced, such as eyesight and dental checks. “There have been requests to include other features and some even asked if we can provide traditional Chinese therapies like acupuncture,” said Ong.
“We will study the requests carefully and will start with eyesight checks first.”
Yesterday, Pandan Perdana flats residents came in droves to the clinic. Community leader S. Thiruchelvam said that many checked their blood sugar levels.
"This is good because they will not go to regular clinics and just assume they are healthy.”
He said there were 3,000 residents at the flats who include former squatters.
