Ong Tee Keat's free mobile clinic a hit

MOBILE CHECKS: Idris and Rospuziah having a check-up yesterday

CHERAS: For retirees Idris Mohd Sidin and wife Rospuziah Ali, the presence of a mobile clinic yesterday at their doorstep in Taman Kencana was a welcome sight.“We are pleased with this kind of service since it is important for people our age to keep tabs on our health,” said Idris, 60, of Rivera Apartments.“We were informed of the free mobile clinic service a few days ago and we just couldn't miss the opportunity. It is indeed beneficial for people like us.”

Rospuziah, 57, was also delighted with the convenience of getting a medical check-up at their residential area on Sunday morning. “We were actually thinking of going for a check-up soon.
"It's quite a hassle to go out during the weekdays considering the traffic and cost involved. We are glad to have it here. Moreover, it's free of charge.”She said the mobile clinic has meant they avoid the long queues at either government clinics or private medical centres.

Thanks to 1Malaysia Community Alliance Foundation programme, the mobile clinic service is a continuous and tireless effort by Pandan MP Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat. Its objective is to provide valuable community service for the constituency.

“We have been running the service almost every weekend in the Pandan constituency and it has received good response from the people since it was launched early this year,” said Ong.He said there was a possibility the fleet of mobile clinics would be increased to at least three, due to encouraging public feedback.
Stating he was grateful for the participation of volunteers from the Segi College nursing students, he added: “We have also extended the service to Serendah, Rasa and also Penang over the past few months.”
He said his team has been working hard to provide the services around the area and faced challenges along the way.

Among them, he said, the staff manning the vehicle were once instructed to leave by Ampang Jaya Municipal Council officers, citing "traffic obstruction" at Taman Bukit Teratai commercial area.“They said the mobile clinic caused congestion on a Labour Day weekend. Can you imagine that?”

Earlier in the morning, the Pandan MP joined residents of Jalan Pandan Perdana 1/3 flats in a gotong royong.
“We must meet the people on the ground. It's my duty to support my constituency's efforts for a clean neighbourhood.”
