Ultimate Worst Car

Ultimate Worst Car Ever Made List

The following list is a list compiled from various sources listing the worst cars ever made. Not all lists agreed on the cars, some appear on any worst cars list. The key thing about this list is some of the cars were mechanically fine, but the style simply did not sell. Others had teething problems when first released but later years were perfectly fine cars because of changes made. Still others were simply bad designs that only an idiot would allow into production. So, you may not agree with all on the list because maybe you had no bad experience with it. On the other hand, maybe a car not on the list but you feel it should be because all you ever had were problems! The list does not rank cars.

1913 Scripps Booth Bi-Autogo- a sort of motorcycle car, weird.
1911 Overland OctoAuto - a car with eight wheels. Love it.
1949 Crosley Hotspot- America's first post WW2 sports car.
1958-60 Mercury Parklane

1957-59 Ford Edsel - a style that never caught the public's fancy.
1961 Amphicar - unique, in that, it could be on land or in water simply by switching gears.
1960-63  Chevy Corvair - the early models did have design flaws that were corrected and from 1965-69, the air cooled rear engine car was totally safe and fine. Over 2 million were made. In 1965, it was Motor Trend's Car of the Year for the redesign Chevy did.
63-66 Studebaker Wagonaire - another interesting design that had part of roof slide away for a station wagon.
62-63 Studebaker Avanti - despite its sports car look, it had problems.
65-67 AMC Marlin Fastback - From certain angles, the car looks way cool, yet it was a Rambler in heart and mechanically unreliable.
69-77 Ford Maverick and Pinto - two of Ford's lousy cars in quality, style and mechanically.

Ford Maverick
Ford Pinto
74 Pontiac GTO

70-79 AMC Gremlin - yes, they really did live in this car and the designer should have been shot.
75-80 AMC Pacer - While it was praised when first released for its design, subsequent years showed just how bad its design was.
77 Chevy Chevette- more ugh!
72 Plymouth Cricket and Pontiac T-1000 - I honestly believe the designers were on LSD.
Plymouth Cricket
Pontiac T-1000
82 AMC Eagle Wagon and Fuego - Again, AMC was on their deathbed in many ways before Chrysler took over. The Fuego was a joint venture with Renault which only made AMC sink faster.
AMC Eagle Wagon
AMC Fuego
80-85 Chevy Citation
78-80 Honda Accord- When it first came out, it had serious reliability.
84-88 Pontiac Fiero - designed as a commuter car, the public thought it was a sports car. The early years had issues with numerous things, by 85, these were corrected, but like the Corvair, the damage was done. Not a real practical car.
89-91 Chrysler TC
85 Yugo - a piece of crap.
81 Ford Escort - mostly junk.
2001 Pontiac Aztek - another odd design that was not accepted by the public.
2003 Hummer H2 - who wants to drive a tank?
2000-02 Plymouth Prowler - way cool design with retro style but never sold much because it was not practical to own.

  1. For some reason, I don’t find these cars ugly at all. Perhaps it’s because they’re made during the early years of the automotive industry, which makes them vintage cars, that I find them appealing. The only exception to this are the cars from the 85 Yugo to the 2003 Hummer H2 – man, they’re not spectacular at all! But I find that Plymouth Prowler endearing – it’s like something that James Bond would drive in the ‘70s.
